Music For Your Fri-YAY 7

            Tunes for your Friday

tunes that I've been loving and
new bops for you to discover:

MUSIC

This is a segment I call "Music For Your Fri YAY." I love to listen to music when I'm happy, and when I'm happy it's usually Friday or the end of the week.

In this playlist, the first half of songs sort of embody what Hawaii sounds and looks like to me. The ambiance of school, the beach, car rides, random shopping and food trips; Waikiki to Ala Moana to Kakaako. The second half describes the feeling of my journey navigating the ages of 13-17, the four difficult years of my life to this date.

Also, I feel as though I have some mild form of synesthesia that helps me relate color to certain experiences and songs being a teenager. According to Wikipedia, "Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway."

These songs' mood, when listened to in sequential order, get progressively faster, more upbeat, and seem to change in color when I listen to them. It's strange to even try to describe this feeling in words. But an example that I can give you is that "In My Life" by The Beatles reminds me of the orange color of this text. It's nostalgic, some in the fact that it has been my favorite color since elementary school and reminds me of hazy memories from my childhood, such as with creamy orange Meadow Gold ice cream bars that I would treat myself to at my grandparent's house. I could sit and type here for eternity of how certain songs remind me of the hue of particular memories, but that probably would take up the whole blog post.

1. ARTISTS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT IN THIS PLAYLIST are Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, BROCKHAMPTON and Girls.

2. THE VIBES FOR THIS PLAYLIST are mostly for my own nostalgia and memories. Like I previously described, it's really the blend of colors that I associate with each song that helps me to visualize my own experiences and reflect on them with purpose.

3. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PLAYLIST can be used to reminisce, or to play loudly in your car during long drives and road trips. Laugh, reflect, think, manifest, rinse, repeat.

I hope that you enjoy this Spotify playlist that I call "Hawaii."
